The Shifting Political Landscape is Drawing More Individuals to Public Service Lawyering

While almost half of beginning law students say they want to work in public service, by graduation those percentages fall dramatically. Still, the trend is changing: these days more newly-minted lawyers are choosing careers in government and the nonprofit sector, as the ever-shifting political landscape draws more individuals to consider public service lawyering.

Do female athletes receive unfair treatment when they become mothers? That’s the topic of an upcoming paper by Isabelle “Bella” Silva, JD ’26.

Scheduled for June publication in the Harvard Journal of Sports and Entertainment Law, Silva’s research is grounded in the Pregnancy Discrimination Act and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The resulting article, “The Motherhood Penalty: The Intersection of Law and Social Unrest Re: Pregnancy Discrimination of Female Athletes,” traces the evolution of pregnancy discrimination doctrine.
"The Law of the Claw" -- The Legal Issues

Prof. Michael Dube's law review article, "The Law of the Claw," will be published in the Arkansas Law Review (Volume 80, Issue 1).

"The Law of the Claw" is a fascinating article about legal issues involving mechanical claw machines at amusement parks, carnivals, restaurants and other venues. These machines are arguably a form of gambling which raises a number of considerations for law and policy, especially since kids are the customers.
