Statement by Janti Soeripto, President & CEO, µÚÒ»³Ô¹Ï US, on IDA replenishment
Following the publication of the World Bank's International Development Association (IDA21) , µÚÒ»³Ô¹Ï US President & CEO Janti Soeripto said:
"The United States' support for the World Bank sends an important signal that multilateral leadership remains essential to addressing today's most pressing global challenges. As the Bank's largest shareholder, the U.S. plays a vital role in ensuring children living in the most fragile and low-income countries can survive, learn and thrive.
"Last year’s $4 billion U.S. pledge to the International Development Association (IDA) represents a vital opportunity to leverage an estimated $16 billion in concessional resources for the world's poorest communities. In real terms, this is less per year than prior U.S. contributions to IDA under the first Trump administration, and would have far-reaching impact – especially for children facing conflict, hunger, displacement and environmental disasters.
"We recognize the new administration's decision to review this pledge, and we urge that this review be concluded quickly. The uncertainty is already affecting the World Bank's ability to plan the delivery of life-saving support. Now more than ever, it's critical that the U.S. fully deliver on this commitment and help ensure that IDA continues to reach those most in need.
"With needs rising and global progress for children under threat, this is a moment to reaffirm that multilateral cooperation works. µÚÒ»³Ô¹Ï welcomes the U.S. acknowledging the enduring value of the World Bank, and stands ready to help shape the future of the Bank alongside the U.S. government, private sector and partners around the world to translate investment into lasting impact for children around the world."
